Empowering Women Through Rice Growing and Value Addition in Eastern and Westnile Regions
Women Grow Uganda (WGU) is on a mission to empower rural women through sustainable agriculture, enabling them to break free from poverty and achieve financial independence. The core of this cause lies in transforming subsistence farming into large-scale rice production, offering both food security and economic opportunities for women in Bulambuli District and beyond.
Despite the abundance of fertile land, many women in this region face limited access to markets, poor agricultural practices, and a lack of value-added opportunities. Through our rice farming project, we aim to mobilize over 100 women’s groups to engage in large-scale rice cultivation, processing, and marketing. With this initiative, we will reduce reliance on middlemen, ensure fair wages for women, and introduce a local rice processing plant to add value to their produce, all while promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
This project also directly addresses food insecurity in the Karamoja Region, where food supplies are scarce and often come from neighboring districts. Women Grow Uganda is strategically positioned to supply rice to this underserved area, creating a vital food source while promoting economic growth in one of Uganda’s most marginalized regions.
By supporting this cause, we are not just growing rice – we are sowing the seeds of change for women’s empowerment, rural development, and economic resilience. Together, we can help women realize their potential, ensure sustainable food systems, and contribute to the long-term prosperity of Uganda.
Join us in making a lasting difference—one grain of rice at a time.
